Activity
Our scientific activities are closely linked with our clinical activities and comprise the following:
allergic disease in its various forms (atopic dermatitis, bronchial asthma, seasonal allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, recurrent inflammation of the airways and ears), with particular emphasis on concurrent and early diagnosis of food allergies);
congenital and acquired immunodeficiency in children.
Structure
The Laboratory of Cellular and Humoral Immunity performs tests to assess specific sensitisation of lymphocytes to antigens in cow's milk and flour using the blastic transformation method (the Laboratory is the only entity in Poland to perform these tests) and test of lymphocyte reactivity under the influence of PHA and other mitogens, rosette tests for lymphocytes, tests examining the function of phagocytic cells (endocytosis, NBT tests, chemiluminescence tests. The Laboratory assesses eosinophilia in the lining of the nasal cavity. Concentrations of core classes of immunoglobulins (G, A, M) are measured, alongside β-hemolytic streptococcal antibodies (ASO), total IgE and specific antibodies of their class (reagins) for various inhaled allergens and food allergens, specific antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii, rubella virus and cytomegalovirus.
The Cytometry Laboratory performs phenotyping of the subpopulations of immunocompetent cells of peripheral blood as well as molecular studies on new methods of early diagnosis of food allergies.
