Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Activity

Zakład zajmuje się badaniem występowania i przyczyn problemów zdrowotnych dotyczących kobiet ciężarnych, noworodków, niemowląt, dzieci i młodzieży oraz kobiet w wieku rozrodczym, a także opracowywaniem metod profilaktycznych i naprawczych w skali populacyjnej.

Pracownicy Zakładu uczestniczą w licznych projektach badawczych, zarówno z dziedziny zdrowia publicznego, jak i badań klinicznych, wnosząc do multidyscyplinarnych zespołów badawczych, ekspercką znajomość metod planowania badań, biostatystyki i zasad wnioskowania.

W Zakładzie realizowane są następujące badania naukowe i rozwojowe:

  • projekt Unii Europejskiej EURO-PERISTAT II dotyczący budowy wskaźników monitorowania zdrowia w okresie okołoporodowym (od 2004 r.);
  • program Pierwotnej Profilaktyki Wad Cewy Nerwowej (od 1997 r.).

a także, między innymi:

  • badania nad wiedzą, postawami i zachowaniami zdrowotnymi kobiet w wieku rozrodczym
    (od 1999 r.);
  • badanie związków między rozwojem człowieka w okresie życia płodowego a stanem zdrowia w wieku dorosłym (od 1999 r.);
  • badania nad uwarunkowaniami wcześniactwa i małej masy urodzeniowej (od 1990 r.);
  • badania z zakresu epigenetyki, tzn. związków między czynnikami genetycznymi i środowiskowymi w powstawaniu wad i chorób (od 1999 r.);
  • długofalowe badania rozwoju fizycznego i neurologicznego dzieci urodzonych przed 32 tygodniem trwania ciąży (pod kierunkiem Kliniki Neonatologii i Intensywnej Terapii Noworodka w Instytucie Matki i Dziecka, od 1997 r.);
  • badania dotyczące zgonów oraz ciężkich zachorowań kobiet w związku z ciążą, porodem i połogiem (od 2007 r.).

W latach 1992-2007 w Zakładzie były także realizowane cykliczne badania „Health Behaviour in School Aged Children. A WHO Cross-national Collaborative Study”, a w latach 2001-2006 projekt Unii Europejskiej KIDSCREEN dotyczący budowy kwestionariuszy badania jakości życia związanej ze zdrowiem dzieci i młodzieży w wieku 8-18 lat.

Zakład Epidemiologii udziela także licznych konsultacji dotyczących planowania, analizy statystycznej i interpretacji wyników badań naukowych w medycynie oraz uczestniczy w kształceniu studentów medycyny i kształceniu podyplomowym w zakresie epidemiologii klinicznej, epidemiologii ogólnej i biostatystyki. Prowadzi współpracę z zagranicznymi i krajowymi placówkami naukowymi.
